Our community is strongest when organizations, businesses, faith communities, service providers, emergency responders, schools, and civic groups work together before a disaster occurs. Whether facing earthquakes, severe weather, extended power outages, wildfire smoke, or other emergencies, no single organization can meet all community needs alone. This meeting is an opportunity to: Connect with organizations that serve our community Learn about local preparedness and resilience initiatives Identify resources, capabilities, and potential gaps in service Explore opportunities for collaboration before, during, and after disasters Strengthen relationships that can make a difference when our community faces challenges Communities that invest in preparedness and cross-sector partnerships are better positioned to support residents, protect vulnerable populations, and recover more quickly when disasters occur. By bringing diverse perspectives and resources together, we can build a stronger, safer, and more resilient Gig Harbor region. Your experience, expertise, and commitment to the community make your participation valuable. Whether your organization provides direct services, supports volunteers, operates critical infrastructure, serves vulnerable populations, or simply wants to be part of a more resilient community, we welcome your voice at the table. Together, we can begin building the partnerships and networks that help communities prepare for, respond to, and recover from emergencies more effectively.

The Comfort Quilters is a community of women who make beautiful quilts by hand for people who need comfort, whether grieving a loved one, enduring a crisis, or staying at a shelter. In 2024, the Washington State Department of Agriculture (WSDA) successfully eradicated the northern giant hornet from Washington State, which posed a significant threat to honeybees and other native pollinators and insects. However, earlier this year, WSDA intercepted a live yellow-legged hornet in Vancouver, which are highly invasive and known to reduce honeybee hives and honey production. Additionally, the spotted lanternfly, which feeds on a wide range of plants including grapes, hops, stone fruits, and fruit and hardwood trees, is hoping to ruin Conservation & Cocktails (Hops Beware!). From quiet neighborhood edges to remote mountain ridgelines, cougars move through the landscapes we call home—often unseen, but always present. Join Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife Carnivore Research Scientist Brian Kertson for an engaging evening exploring the lives of one of the Pacific Northwest’s most elusive predators. Drawing on more than two decades of field research, Brian will share insights into cougar ecology and behavior, how these animals navigate both wild and human-dominated spaces, and what it means to coexist with a top carnivore in our region. Along the way, you’ll hear stories from the field—moments of close encounters, long hours of tracking, and the challenges and surprises that come with studying Washington’s big cats. Brian will also offer practical guidance for staying safe while recreating outdoors and understanding cougar presence in both rural and suburban environments. Whether you’re a hiker, wildlife enthusiast, or simply curious about the animals that share our region, this evening offers a deeper look into the hidden lives of cougars—and our relationship to them. Cost is $10. Register here: https://ncascades.org/signup/programs/from-backyards-to-mountain-tops-cougars-in-the-pacific-northwest-online/program-registration?

Their beautiful quilts are donated to Cancer Care, the Visitation Team, Fostering Hope, WCCW Baby Unit, SOAR, Las Amigas, Habitat for Humanity, Backup Buddies, and others. When we pause to sketch a plant, something quiet and transformative happens. We step out of the rush of daily life and enter the patient rhythm of the living world. Botanical sketch journaling is not about creating museum-worthy masterpieces or achieving technical perfection—it is an act of deep observation, curiosity, and connection with nature. By translating what you see onto the page, you begin to notice the subtle architecture of a leaf, the delicate swirl of a seedpod, or the rich, shifting hues of autumn foliage in ways that a camera—or a passing glance—simply cannot capture. Led by a professional botanical illustrator at the University of Washington Herbarium in the Burke Museum, this engaging 2.5-hour online workshop bridges the gap between scientific observation and artistic expression. Designed for all experience levels—from complete beginners to seasoned nature lovers—you’ll learn how to observe plants with an illustrator’s eye, recognizing key morphological characteristics and diagnostic features while building a rewarding and approachable sketch journaling practice. Through live demonstrations featuring Pacific Northwest fall foliage and dried seedpods, you’ll learn techniques for sketching with confidence, capturing fine textures through clean linework, and using watercolor strategically to highlight important plant features. You’ll also discover how to pair drawings with descriptive notes to create elegant, informative journal pages. Whether your goal is to begin a nature journaling practice or deepen your understanding of plant biology through art, you’ll leave with practical skills—and a fresh way of seeing the botanical world around you. Open to all levels. No prior drawing or scientific experience is required—just curiosity and a love of the natural world. If you can't make the specific date or time of a class you want to take, you can still register and we will send you a link to view the program on your own time! All registrants will have

Get StartedDrink spiking, knowing the signs of manipulation, image-based abuse, coercive partners, isolation tactics — these don't only happen "somewhere else." They happen at the bars, parties, and shows we love most. THE WALL is built on the premise that the people who show up to enjoy live music also need to know what to watch for, where to go if something happens, and how to look out for the person next to them.
Conservatively, 1 in 10 women have had a drink spiked — and the real number sits above it, since most victims never find out. GHB clears the body in ~12 hours — know the signs, act fast.
Gaslighting · DARVO · love bombing · isolation — manipulation patterns to spot before they escalate. For yourself, and the person next to you.
Non-consensual photos, deepfakes, and "revenge" sharing are crimes in WA. Know your rights and the steps to take if you're targeted.
