Fluidity and a malleable character are necessary attributes to any Guide representing such a place as ours with so much diversity amongst our people. It is with this in mind that the current title is taken - because until we engage one another, we are all in a real sense outsiders to one another's ways of life, however long we've lived here.
Neighborhood by neighborhood - even street by street, our local neighborhood communities collectively define the character and nature of our environs. It will be my work to listen with open ears to those willing to share their thoughts on what makes their special place in Tacoma what it is. Together we'll find the words that express well what we're about, and over time we'll have a fine introduction to our neighborhoods.
This Guide will serve as a starting point for those new to our city as well. And as we engage the dialogue regards how we live our lives here, broaden our mutual perspectives, and experience life in our city through one another's eyes, we then have the hope of becoming 'insiders' ourselves, of understanding our rather unique and emergent identity, and respecting the variety of lifestyles that constitute our culture.
Engage the Guide and share what makes our city what it is - to you. Share what you love, and we will share it with others in turn. More people will discover our gems, share the experience with friends, and return for more. Resources will grow, along with a better life for all.
